City of Santa Ana Aquatics’ E.L.L. (Emerging Lifeguard Leaders is back)!
With summer 2025 right around the corner, the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Aquatics team is taking measures to prepare for the upcoming season. In preparation for nearing hiring fairs, trainings, and spring programming, the team is bringing back the long awaited Emerging Lifeguard Leaders or E.L.L. program. Emerging Lifeguard Leaders is a free program created to help bridge the fear for residents who are interested in becoming lifeguards but have no prior knowledge of lifeguarding skills. The program is designed to help participants prepare, train for a lifeguard certification course, and get one step closer to being a Santa Ana Lifeguard! Skills taught throughout the multi-week program are:
- Basic water safety (including treading, front crawl, floating on front & back)
- Rescue skills
- Swim stroke refinement (front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back stroke)
- 10-pound brick tow
- Diving in the deep end
- American Red Cross Lifeguard 24 course prerequisites
This program is free and open to all ages 16 – 24. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. in two sessions dates: 3/11/25 – 3/25/25 and 4/1/25 – 4/22/25 at the Jerome Recreation Center and Pool (726 S Center St.)
