Zip Books FAQ

About Zip Books

Zip Books allows patrons to request books (print or audio) that the Santa Ana Public Library does not own. The items are free to patrons and are shipped directly from Amazon. Just remember to return the items to the library. The Zip Books program will be back in 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Who can participate?

You must be an Orange County resident and have a library card in good standing with the Santa Ana Public Library. All ages may participate; those under 18 must have a parent/guardian’s permission to make a request.

How much does it cost?

The Zip Books service is free. However, if the Zip Book is not returned to the library, a replacement fee will be charged to your account.

What can I request?

Item may be a Book or a Large Print Book in various languages. No textbooks, study guides, best sellers, or new releases (published less than six months ago).

How do I request a book or an audiobook on CD?

You can place a request online, via the phone, or in person at the Santa Ana Public Library.

I placed a request. Now what?

Library staff will provide you with an update about your request. They will tell you when to expect the book to arrive from Amazon or if the item is unavailable. The item will be shipped directly to your home or to the library for pickup if you do not have a verified address.

How do I return a Zip Book?

You have three weeks to enjoy your Zip Book. Insert the gift receipt in the Zip Book and return it in its original packaging or a sealed plastic bag to the circulation desk at either the Main Library or the Newhope Library. If there is no receipt, please insert a note in the book with your name, library card number, and identify the item as a Zip Book.

What if an item is not available through Zip Books?

If we cannot purchase an item for any reason, please use our InterLibrary Loan (ILL) service.

I have more questions.

Please email library staff at OMorphew@santa-ana.org if you have any other Zip Books service questions.
